About

The Game Development education at the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences in Hagenberg is part of the Digital Media master’s programme. Students learn and apply the integral parts of game development during their 2 years of education: Developing game concepts, creating multimedia assets such as sound or graphics, realizing game mechanics and logical components, building modular software solutions and much more.

One of the core aspects of computer games education is teamwork. To support this, the Game Development Studio (also referred als Game-Lab or GLab) is the central node for all game development activities. Modern equipment such as the latest PC hardware and game consoles, a broad range of input devices and the possibility for students to access the lab at almost any time create the ideal conditions for a productive work environment. A more detailed description of the lab including an interactive 360° panorama is available at this page:

In addition to teaching, the GLab actively pursues research goals. Cogaen – the Component-Based Game Engine – is a R&D project that aims to create a modular, universally usable and platform-independent game engine. Students are given the possibility to actively contribute to this project by creating new components and subsystems. Furthermore they can use this technology to create different games.

Usually the lab hosts between 5 and 10 students under the supervision of 3 researchers.
